The girls started school on Thursday. They were all excited and rearing to go. They had all their supplies, bookbags and rulers, crayons and pencils, and cute new outfits. Zoe made me promise not to embarass her by taking pictures of her in front of her peers, and, I was forbade not to cry at least until I got to the car. Izzy wondered if she would be the prettiest girl in her class and was worried about forgetting where her classroom was. Peyton was scared but seemed excited, especially about the toys she knew were in her classroom. When it came time for me to leave Zoe and Isabelle, they were fine. Zoe practically pushed me out the door. And Isabelle made two new friends before the first bell. After school, Zoe was a bit moody and said that the first day was hard. She said she played alone at recess--this broke my heart. But, then, she told me that she really likes a boy named Tyler and she hopes he'll be her friend. (the next day, Tyler and Zoe's friendship status was confirmed)--ahh, the intracacies of preteen life. Anyway, Isabelle reported that she had a great first day and one boy told her that he l-o-v-e-s her. JEEZ! So it begins! And my little Peyton, she was nervous when I dropped her off, but didn't cry. She looked so tiny and unsure, though, I have to confess that I didn't make it to the car before the tears started streaming down my face! Oh well. When I came to pick Peyton up, I arrived early and watched her for a few minutes through the window of her classroom door. She and her classmates were seated in a circle, and the teacher was calling them individually to retrieve their bookbags. Peyton looked scared and sad. Her eyes were red and you could see that she was trying not to cry. As soon, as she saw me, she ran into my arms, collapsed and started balling!
I will not be taking her back to preschool. Number and letters, shapes and colors can be taught at home without any tears! So, Peyton and I are doing homeschool, and she is happy with that.
Friday was our first day, and we went over the basic colors and shapes. Peyton knew them all, but often forgot yellow. Anyway, all is well in school land.
