Preschool Update

Last week, Peyton and I began Preschool at home. We do about 2 hours a day--plenty for her, I think. We are focusing on colors, shapes, and numbers 1-10. I have also started her on learning letter sounds, leading into reading. The book I use for that is "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons." I used this book with Zoe and Isabelle, and I love it. It begins by teaching the letter sounds and combinations until the child learns to read, then, the names of the letters are discussed. Learning to write the letters is taught throughout. So far, Peyton has completed two of the lessons. She is doing wonderfully with the sounds; I was happy to see that she could remember sounds from one day to the next. We started with m and s. As one would expect of a three-year old, her penmanship leaves much to be desired. I am focusing more on getting her to hold a pencil the correct way than what she actually writes down.
As far as shapes and colors, Peyton knows them all pretty well. She will sometimes mix up yellow and orange. I was very happy with her ability to distinguish same/different. She can easily point to shapes and colors and tell which are the same and which are different. She needs some work with counting. Anyone who knows Peyton, knows that she is a goof with a keen sense of humor. This comes out in her as a student, too. She will sometimes say the wrong color with a grin, baiting me. Then, she will giggle and say the right one.
